Our Story
Spring Branch Church of God has been faithful to spreading the Gospel in Houston since 1963. From the initial start of a home prayer meeting, to renting space at an Elementary School, to finally locating to 2605 Campbell Road, the current home of the congregation, God has blessed this group of believers down through the years. Many students who attended Gulf Coast Bible College (now Mid America Christian University) became active in Bus Ministry in the 70s and 80s. The ministry was known for being the church with the "heart buses" and adopted the slogan "Where Love Abounds". The congregation also started a Christian Academy in 1974 under the leadership of Pastor David UnRue, and was in operation until 2005. Pastor Roy Conwell came to SBCOG in 2004. His connection to the church began while a student at Gulf Coast Bible College and was inspired by Pastor UnRue's leadership at that time. The College was also where he met his wife, Alice. As the church continues ministry in the Spring Branch area of Houston, opportunities for service and participation include Sunday School, First Comes Love seminars for couples, Vacation Bible School, women's and men's fellowship and Adonijah School of Ministry, which offers seminary level instruction by Pastor Conwell. In 2020, Covid had a devasting impact on many families, but the church was still able to meet on Zoom. Since then, some services and meeting can still be viewed remotely for those unable to attend in person. Spring Branch Church of God continues to be the place "Where Love Abounds".
